What kind of papers are used in Corrugating boxes packaging?

The corrugated paper sheet is a material consisting of the fluted paper sheet and two or three plain liner boards. It is made on corrugators and is used in the manufacture of heavy-duty containers for shipping and corrugated boxes for normal packaging

Corrugating packaging grades

There are mainly three major corrugating grades, which we are going to discuss in this blog:

Kraftliner Paper

Kraft Liner is a packaging paper or paperboard, whose fibre content has no less than 80% Virgin fibres obtained by the chemical sulfate or soda processes. Made from virgin fibre, it is noted for its high resistance to tearing, stress and punching. These properties make it an ideal paper for manufacturing packaging with complex structures and when higher levels of resistance are required.

Types of Kraft Liner

Whitetop Kraft Liner

  • Whitetop Kraft liner is another grade of kraft paper having the white top on side and kraft on the other side. Whitetop can be coated or uncoated based on the requirement of the customer and depending upon the application of paper. This board is suitable for high-quality printing applications

White top Kraftliner

Brown Kraft Liner

  • It is made from virgin wood fibres, known for its greater strength, high resistance to tearing, stress, punching and moisture. It is typically used as top and bottom liner for corrugated boxes with single or more flutes.

Kraft liner Board

Testliner Paper

The term testliner refers to papers of different bursting strengths. Since some grades of testliner have lower burst factors due to containing high amounts of recycled fibres, the lower grades of testliner are often associated with recycled fibres.

Testliner is a recycled baseliner board for containerboard. The products consist of three layers. It is used for the inner and outer layers (face paper) of carton boxes and is divided into three quality grades: LH, LE, LF.

It can be used for the production of:

  • Food packaging

  • Packaging for consumer durables

  • Corrugated cardboard tray packaging

Fluting Paper

Fluting paper is the middle liner sandwiched between the top and bottom liner of the corrugated board, which can be used individually as a type of protective packaging paper. It provides protection by filling empty spaces in the outer case, providing cushioning support for the primary product.

Being an environmentally friendly alternative to traditional packaging materials such as bubble wrap and other plastic-based solutions, it is 100% recyclable and made from a renewable resource.

Semi-chemical Fluting Paper

Types of Fluting Paper

Recycled Fluting / Medium Fluting Paper

Recycled fluting paper is produced from 100% selected recycled fibres. Strength properties are guaranteed by additional starch. It is used for various food packaging types.

Semi-Chemical Fluting Paper

Semi chemical fluting is made of 80% hardwood virgin fibres and 20% softwood fibres and offers high performance and excellent runnability. Its superior strength leads to improved box performance, making it the perfect material for packaging fresh fruit and vegetables, and fragile heavy goods.
